Nobody can say for sure where a certain trends like red sunglasses starts, ends, or gets popular. Anything can make something popular, from just a small town fad that catches on and spreads over from state to state, or maybe it started at a fashion show in New York where a model where the right dress was also wearing some big red sunglasses or red lense sunglasses and at the time it was unique and very appealing. Maybe it was just a celebrity walking down the street or seen at the beach sporting their red sunglasses and it just caught on from there. Perhaps the biggest impact on the trend of red sunglasses for men were the movie characters who wore them. As mentioned in a previous article, Tony Stark was recently seen wearing red lense sunglasses in the movie “Ironman”. When someone who is depicted as such a cool character is seen wearing a certain style, then people like to copy that style so that they can take some of the value that is implied from that character and add it to their personality.
But before Ironman wore red sunglasses you may recall a very popular movie called “Fight Club” in which ladies man Brad Pitt (playing the part of Tyler Durden) is seen throughout the movie wearing big red lense sunglasses. These red sunglasses were aviator style and because Tyler Durden was known as a tough guy in the movie, this greatly helped the red sunglasses fashion to catch on with the male population. It’s amazing how one character can change the way people think about a certain color or style. Over just the past several years even pink shirts, hats, bandanas, and pants have become popular among the male population because rappers began to wear this color. Pink was long though to be related to homosexuality if a man wore it but this is no longer the case. It’s amazing how much something can change just by the right person or celebrity wearing it a certain way.
If we go back even further with red sunglasses or in this case specifically red lense sunglasses you may recall that the popular character from the age old comic book “X-Men” wears red tinted sunglasses. Cyclopse wears these red sunglasses to protect his eyes (or more so other people) from his mutant powers of being able to shoot out high beams of energy from his eyes. With the recent recreation of the x-men series into a major motion pictures Cyclopse can be seen on the big screen sporting his red sunglasses, once again in a tough-guy way that has helped popularize the red sunglasses as a legit accessory for men to wear.
It seems that as time goes by, all styles and stereotypes that may come with them can be broken down if given the right formula to do so. Red sunglasses are good example of this.
